As the QEII Redevelopment Project continues, renovations are scheduled to resume in the emergency department at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.

On April 15, patients and visitors will notice construction in the department waiting room area. The upgrades will improve care by providing a better experience for both patients and staff. 

The project is expected to last approximately eight weeks. To help during this time, a second emergency department patient advocate will be assigned to support patients and staff.

Both physicians began practicing in Antigonish last year following the retirement of Dr. Michael Brennan.

Testing through the weekend confirms water at the Halifax Infirmary site meets Canadian Drinking Water Quality guidelines and is safe for drinking.

Facilities and Maintenance Services will continue to treat the water system for several days. There may be a slight chlorine taste to the water, but chlorine levels will be well within Canadian guidelines for safe drinking water.

While fire suppression capabilities at the site are still reduced following the water disruption last week, enhanced monitoring is in place on all floors for the safety of staff and patients.

The QEII’s Halifax Infirmary site will return to full normal operations as of Monday.

Public Health supports access to COVID-19 and influenza testing, and COVID-19, influenza and measles immunization across the province. Water and heat have now been restored at the QEII’s Halifax Infirmary site.

However, Nova Scotia Health is asking people to NOT drink the water. Three days of water testing will be required before tap water can be considered drinkable.

Fire suppression will not be restored right away. Enhanced fire monitoring is in place throughout the site.

Only emergency and time-sensitive surgeries will proceed at the Halifax Infirmary site on Friday.

Friday blood collection and ambulatory appointments will go ahead virtually where possible.

SYDNEY, N.S. – A virtual care option is being tested at four emergency departments in Nova Scotia Health’s Eastern Zone.

The virtual urgent care service will be provided by a team of Nova Scotia Health staff and virtual nurses and physicians. It is being tested over the next few weeks in emergency departments at Eastern Memorial Hospital in Canso, Guysborough Memorial Hospital, St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital in Sherbrooke, and Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston.

A second water main break occurred at the QEII’s Halifax Infirmary site overnight, resulting in the loss of water and steam for all buildings on campus (Halifax Infirmary, Veterans Memorial Building, Abbie J. Lane, Power Plant).

There is currently no running water for flushing toilets or drinking. Portable hand-washing stations are available and portable washrooms are located near main entrances. Bottled water is available at the site.
