There has been a significant water event at the QEII’s Halifax Infirmary site due to a broken water main line in the steam plant, resulting in the loss of water and steam for all buildings on campus (Halifax Infirmary, Veterans Memorial Building, Abbie J. Lane, Power Plant).

There is currently no running water for flushing toilets or drinking. Hand sanitizer is available and we are working to bring in drinking water and portable hand-washing stations/washrooms to as soon as possible. 

Green Shirt Day is on April 7. To ensure more can join in, on April 8, Nova Scotia Health will be participating in Green Shirt Day to raise awareness about the significance of organ and tissue donation. All employees, physicians, learners, and volunteers are encouraged to wear a green shirt or green item as part of a national initiative honoring Logan Boulet. Logan tragically lost his life in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash.

Three brothers—Drs. Jason, Dale, and Blair Williams—have come together to honour the memory of their father, Nick Williams, through the establishment of the Nick Williams Foundation. Managing the foundation is a family affair - along with Linda Williams, their mother, Nonie MacLeod, Nick’s sister, and Fraser Keays, Nick’s cousin, they oversee the fundraising and donation of funds in Nick’s memory. 

Nova Scotia Health is taking steps to address the shortage of inpatient mental health beds across the province due to the recent flood at the Abbie J. Lane Building, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.

Starting March 29, services provided by the Yarmouth Recovery Support Centre at Yarmouth Regional Hospital, including walk-in support, one-on-one counseling, group sessions, and distribution of harm reduction supplies, will be temporarily reallocated to open five inpatient mental health beds.

Amy MacSween is a familiar face at Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney. She is a recreation therapy associate by background and a member of the Nova Scotia Health Frailty and Elder Care Network’s Early Mobility Program.

Public Health supports access to COVID-19 and influenza immunization and testing across the province. Some clinics are also offering measles immunization. 

“I think I was always destined to work in quality improvement,” said Bradley Osmond, a quality improvement and patient safety leader at Nova Scotia Health. He has dedicated his career to making a difference in healthcare. Originally from Newfoundland, Osmond earned a business degree from Acadia University and a Masters in Applied Health Services Research from Dalhousie University in Halifax. 

Diabetes Canada’s Diabetes Educator of the Year award is nationally recognized and celebrates healthcare professionals who have made special contributions to the diabetes space through dedication, sensitivity and innovation. Nova Scotia has Certified Diabetes Educators across the province who continually strive to provide high-quality and respectful care. This past fall, one of our staff was awarded the title 2023 Diabetes Educator of the Year. Lisa deMolitor is a dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator in the Annapolis Valley.

The Cancer Patient Family Advisory Council (PFAC) was created to ensure patients, families, and communities are meaningful partners in cancer system improvements and that patient and family perspectives are identified and reflected in decision-making.
