The expansion of Yarmouth Regional Hospital’s Urology Program to include a cystoscopy service means up to 100 patients a month can now receive these important services closer to home.

Cystoscopy is a procedure to examine or repair tissues inside the bladder using a special camera called a cystoscope. This scope helps in investigating and managing urological issues like kidney stones, bladder cancer, enlarged prostates, and urinary tract issues.

For mother-of-three Mary Ellen Rainey, the new eReferrals tool now being used by primary care providers, surgeons and Diagnostic Imaging (DI) teams across the province “worked like a charm.”

Nova Scotia launched the electronic referral model last March to help better manage and coordinate referrals to surgeons. The tool was expanded in the fall to also allow eReferrals for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and ultrasounds.

Delirium isn’t something you hear every day, but for Kim Hill, a geriatric nurse practitioner at the Nova Scotia Health QEII Health Sciences Centre’s Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building in Halifax, it is something we should all be talking about.

This year marks Hill’s 30th year as a registered nurse. She has worked across five provinces and taught nursing at the University of Ottawa and the University of New Brunswick. In 2019, Hill graduated from Dalhousie University’s Master of Nursing Nurse Practitioner Program.

The clinic will offer measles-containing vaccines to all people who are due based on the routine vaccine schedule, as well as eligible travellers.

With measles cases on the rise around the world, including here in Canada, Eastern Zone Public Health is planning several all-ages measles immunization clinics, and routine early childhood immunization clinics for children under five years old. These vaccines are also available through primary care providers, if you have one, and some pharmacy primary care clinics.

Public Health supports access to COVID-19 and influenza immunization and testing across the province. To help ensure all Nova Scotians have access to these important services, we will be holding testing and immunization clinics next week. In the vibrant world of nursing, Jessica Wournell, Registered Nurse, and Provincial Clinical Nurse Lead of Nova Scotia Health’s Eating Disorder Provincial Service, emerges as a compassionate force, dedicated to mental health and psychiatric care. 

Wournell’s nursing journey began with a degree from Dalhousie University in 2011. Eager to delve deeper into the field, she dedicated herself to further training in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and Suicide Prevention, ultimately achieving certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse.

SPRINGHILL, N.S. – As shared on March 4, All Saints Springhill Hospital inpatients were evacuated due to presence of smoke and the site was closed to allow time for assessment and remediation. The hospital will remain temporarily closed tomorrow, March 7 with some services returning.

Dr. Eric Wainwright returned this past summer to Nova Scotia after completing medical school at the University of Queensland School of Medicine as well as residency training in Australia. With his two children and partner, Dr. Wainwright now resides in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, splitting his time as a family physician at the Bridgewater and Area Family Health Clinic and doing hospitalist work at the Bridgewater Regional Hospital.
