The Public Health Mobile Unit (PHMU) supports access to immunization and testing in Nova Scotia. To help ensure local access to these important services, PHMU will be holding clinics in communities across the province over the next few days.

Culturally specific Black Health and Wellness Immunization Clinics enable people of African descent to receive vaccinations in a place that feels familiar and respectful. Appointments are not needed to attend Black Health and Wellness Immunization Clinics, drop-ins are welcome. Although these clinics are culturally specific, all are welcome to attend.

Nurses are everyday heroes for the patients they care for. In cancer care, patients can recognize the exemplary care provided by a nurse by nominating them for a Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

This year, two oncology nurses were recently presented with a Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses – one the result of a patient nomination, the other from the granddaughter of a patient.

Katelyn MacDougall’s journey in healthcare began in 2010 as a registered nurse at Dartmouth General Hospital. Over the years, she has transitioned into various roles, including charge nurse. Currently, she has taken on the pivotal role of clinical training lead within the Care Coordination Centre (C3). Her experience with C3, especially since its introduction at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in 2022, has been nothing short of transformative.

The Care by Design program continues to transform long-term care (LTC) in Nova Scotia by blending innovation, patient-centered care and interdisciplinary collaboration to create a model that’s as effective as it is compassionate. 

Navigating the healthcare system can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when trying to find the right services or supports. That’s where Heather Humphries and Carol-Ann Parsons, Pictou County’s first Wellness Navigators, come in. Based at the One Door Chronic Disease Management Centre in New Glasgow, their goal is to help residents connect with the resources they need to improve their health and well-being.

Cancer care relies on a highly skilled multidisciplinary team of health professionals – each with specific areas of expertise. Key among them are oncology nurses.

Four Nova Scotia oncology nurses recently received national recognition from CANO (Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology) for their roles in advancing and contributing to the collective expertise of oncology nursing in Canada.

When a patient is admitted to the hospital for care, one of the most important pieces of information – for the patient, their loved ones and the healthcare system – is when they are expected to leave the hospital, often referred to as their Estimated Date of Discharge (EDD)—a key component for enhancing patient care. 

The first thing you notice when you enter Art and Susan McLaughlin’s home in Halifax, where they have lived together for more than 50 years, is how peaceful it is and their warm and inviting smiles.

For 61 years, the couple has been inseparable. They married just six months after meeting in 1963 when Art was an engineering student at the Technical University of Nova Scotia and Susan was a registered nurse at the VG Hospital.
