The community of Antigonish recently embraced the return of Dr. Sarah Faour and Dr. David Faour, along with their two children. Originally from Calgary, AB, and St. John's, NL, respectively, the couple's journey began at St. Francis Xavier University, where they met and began dating. They eventually got married and started a family. This past fall, they made the decision to return to Antigonish with their young children, Harriet and Arthur, in tow.

The Mental Health and Addictions Nursing Specialty Program (MHANSP) is a part-time, 30-week course for registered nurses wanting to advance their clinical judgment, critical thinking and clinical leadership to work collaboratively with the interprofessional team in a variety of mental health and addictions settings.

Public Health supports access to COVID-19 and influenza immunization, as well as COVID-19 testing across the province. Alex Hosein (pronouns: they/them) became the Bloom Program Coordinator with Nova Scotia Health in December 2022. Within their role, Hosein provides support within health promotion for mental health and addiction services, collaborating with community pharmacy team members, other clinical providers, and community organizations throughout the province.

The Bloom Program is a community pharmacy initiative that aims to increase and improve mental health and addiction care for Nova Scotians.

Dartmouth General Hospital now offers drive-through COVID-19 and influenza immunization appointments for up to four people per vehicle.  The drive through is located behind the hospital on Mt. Hope Drive. 

Patients having surgery at Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) will get a sense of warmth and comfort through specialized warming systems being used to enhance patient safety and care. 

The initiative stemmed from Nova Scotia Health’s participation in the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), which collects information on patients 30 days after their surgeries and uses the data on surgical outcomes to highlight areas for improvement and best practices to share and spread.

Whether you stopped by your local library to grab a rapid COVID-19 test or got your COVID-19 vaccine at your local pharmacy, there was a small but mighty team that ensured the rapid tests and vaccine supplies were available for you.

Eileen Rivas de Caccavale, provincial stockpile manager, Supply Chain Operations team at Nova Scotia Health and her team of less than 20 worked around the clock to ensure personal protective equipment (PPE), COVID-19 rapid test and COVID-19 vaccine supplies were available and distributed to 4,000 organizations across Nova Scotia.

The Northside Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) will now be open an additional day per week, starting this Friday. The Friday hours will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
