CBRM Health Care Redevelopment Project: Northside Health Complex Photo Contest 2023
Background:
The CBRM Health Care Redevelopment Project team and Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation invites you to participate in a photo contest to have your work chosen to be represented in the new Northside Health Complex that’s currently under construction. As part of the project’s interior design, the work of local photographers will be displayed to showcase the talents in our communities.
Overview:
All members of our community are invited to participate in the photo contest. The photos will be displayed in waiting areas and hallways throughout the Northside Health Complex. Some of the images may be part of signage to help with wayfinding.
Please submit a piece that reflects the Northside. Members of the Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation, the CBRM Health Care Redevelopment Project, Build Nova Scotia and the community will form a selection committee to evaluate and determine which photography is selected.
If your work is chosen, you will be awarded a prize and your name will be recognized. We encourage everyone to submit a photo and help brighten the patient experience in the new facilities.

The photo project will run from November 27 to December 18, 2023. All entries must be received by December 18, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.
By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to the official rules and warrants their entry complies with all requirements.
Who May Enter:
The contest is open to all professional and amateur photographers. By entering the contest, entrants agree to the Northside Health Complex – Photo Contest 2023 Terms and Conditions below.
Entrants under 18 years of age require the permission of a parent or guardian. By entering the contest, entrants under 18 years of age agree they have obtained the permission of a parent or guardian.
How to Enter:
We encourage participants to submit photos of landmarks, places, parks and people that makes the Northside unique, with a focus on diversity. There is no limit on the number of entries per person.
To enter, email cbredevelopment@nshealth.ca with the subject line "Northside Health Complex Photo Contest", attach your photo as a JPEG or .jpg file to the email and include the following contact information in the message:
- your first and last name
- address
- telephone number
- email address
- title or caption for your photo
Each entry must comply with the following requirements:
• Photographs must be high resolution (minimum 300dpi) and in digital format. Only submitted entries via email at cbredevelopment@nshealth.ca will be eligible. No print or film submissions will be accepted for entry into this contest. All digital files must be in JPEG or .jpg format. Upload images with the original pixel size. Do not scale and do not change the resolution.
• Entrants must agree to the Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation and Nova Scotia Health having the rights to use their image (photo credit will be recognized) and their name published. This approval will be located on the entry form.
• The photograph must not contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content.
• The caption must be complete and accurate, sufficient to convey the circumstances in which the photograph was taken. Disguising or misrepresenting the origin of your content will be unaccepted.
• Watermarks are unacceptable.
• Entries must be submitted to cbredevelopment@nshealth.ca.
Judging:
Judging consists of one round of evaluations. There will be an unbiased panel of four to five judges that include representation from the Foundation, Nova Scotia Health, Build Nova Scotia and the community. Each photo will be judged for creativity and photographic quality. Together, the judges will come to a consensus. After the judging concludes, the winners will be notified via the contact information provided.
Releases:
If the photograph contains any material or elements that are not owned by the entrant and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, and/or if any persons appear in the photograph, the entrant is responsible for obtaining all releases and consent prior to submission of the photograph. If any person appearing in any photograph is under the age of majority, the signature of a parent or legal guardian is required on each release. These release forms must be provided with submission.
Northside Health Complex – Photo Contest 2023 Terms and Conditions
• I agree to follow the Nova Scotia Health’s and the Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation’s criteria for submissions for the photo contest.
• I agree that this photograph is a single work of original material taken by myself, the entrant.
• I am acknowledging that this is original work created solely by me, that it does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph.
• I give the Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation, in conjunction with the Nova Scotia Health and the provincial government, permission to publish my work for your use for the photo project.
• I give the Nova Scotia Health and the Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation permission to publish my name for recognition purposes if my photograph is chosen.
