1.     Describe your program/service and the patients you serve. 
 
I am a part of the newly formed Early Supported Stroke Discharge (ESD) team. It is the first program of its kind in Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada. The ESD team concept is well established in the Canadian Stroke Best Practices. I am the coordinator of the ESD team and before this I worked as an OT in stroke rehabilitation for 16 years.

New Glasgow native Hannah Fougere, one of three pharmacy practice assistants in the emergency department at the Aberdeen Hospital, has been nominated for a patient safety award.

Nova Scotia Health is looking to engage with Antigonish Town & County residents about a new collaborative practice clinic set to open in Antigonish in 2025, to ensure clinic operations are informed by local experiences.

Who can participate?

With nearly 20 years working as a registered nurse, Duane Jessome’s message is simple, “treat people like family.”

Jessome has worked at Northside General Hospital (NSG) since graduating from nursing school in 1995. He was inspired to pursue nursing because his mother was a nurse at the NSG for 39 years. Since beginning his career, Jessome has worked in many areas with most of his time spent in the emergency department.

Public Health supports access to COVID-19 and influenza immunization, as well as COVID-19 testing across the province. To help ensure all Nova Scotians have access to these important services, we will be holding testing and immunization clinics next week. 

Dr. Jack Rasmussen's expertise and training would qualify him for many high-profile positions across Canada and beyond. Fortunately, he opted to stay here in Nova Scotia to establish his medical practice and build capacity for burn care.    

Nancy Munroe and Karen Stanley gained Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) certification in 2022, something both women say wouldn’t have been possible without their friendship.  Throughout four years of part-time study, while holding down full-time jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic, and juggling the responsibilities of young families, these co-workers formed a strong bond of support and partnership which played a huge role in achieving their goals.

Nova Scotia Health Continuing Care works with its partners in the community (e.g., the Victoria Order of Nurses (VON) and Nova Scotia Health Continuing Care nursing team) to provide services to help Nova Scotians live well at home or to return home following a hospital stay.
