Early childhood development, including that which takes place before birth, has lifelong impacts on a person’s health and wellness. Helping parents provide the best possible start for their little ones is the goal of Public Health. Public Health’s Early Years team offers a range of support and services to pregnant people and parents with infants and young children.

From a neonatal ICU in Newfoundland to Central Zone’s Unattached Newborns Clinic and all stops in between – family practice nurse Shirley Mack is passionate about babies.

Mack, who is a 36-year veteran of nursing with experience in a wide variety of settings and specializations, is delighted to be where she started – caring for babies.

“My initial career goal was to care for infants. It feels only fitting to find myself again doing what I love best as I move closer to retirement age,” she said in a recent interview. “I always knew I wanted to be a nurse.”

METEGHAN, N.S. – The healthcare team at Clare Health Centre will grow thanks to a renewed partnership between Nova Scotia Health, the Municipality of the District of Clare and the health centre. More than 4,000 people in Clare, Weymouth and Digby will have the opportunity to become attached to a primary care provider over the span of two years. There are currently 3,884 people on the Need a Family Practice Registry in Clare, Digby and Weymouth.

As we navigate a surge in respiratory-related illnesses, EHS Operations, Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health would like to remind Nova Scotians how to make the right call to access the right care, including knowing when to call 9-1-1.

Using the 9-1-1 system appropriately allows paramedic resources to be available in cases of medical emergencies that pose an immediate threat to life.

We encourage Nova Scotians to call 9-1-1 for medical or life-threatening emergencies including, but not limited to, the following:

Colchester East Hants Health Centre (CEHHC) welcomed nearly 50 participants for a comprehensive military training simulation and skills session. The group included reservists hailing from Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Ontario. The event showcased a range of skills, featuring sessions on casting, suturing, intravenous (IV) and intraosseous (IO) procedures, and electrocardiogram (EKG) and rhythm interpretation.
