The main public elevators at Glace Bay Hospital are now back in service. 

Repairs have been made to the elevators, which had been out of service since Wednesday, July 31, and regular service has resumed. 

Nova Scotia Health thanks the public for its patience and cooperation while the elevators were being repaired.

TRURO, N.S. - Nova Scotia Health advises the public about upcoming work at Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro. Starting Tuesday, August 6, work will begin on replacing the entry and exit parking gates, including those in the main visitor lot and the emergency department visitor lot. This work is expected to continue from August 6 to August 9 and may extend into the following week.

Nova Scotia Health advises people travelling to the QEII Halifax Infirmary and other Nova Scotia Health services in the area to plan extra travel time due to the closure of Bell Road between Robie Street and Summer Street.

From August 6 to August 30, this section of Bell Road will be closed to public vehicles, and bike lanes will also be inaccessible. Pedestrians will be rerouted as the sidewalks along that section of Bell Road will also be closed. Signage will be in place to indicate diverted routes.

Nova Scotia Health’s Shared Decision Making in Cardiac Interventions module is helping providers and care teams support their patients in making thoughtful and informed decisions about their surgical options. 

Shared Decision Making (SDM) is a formalized approach that involves patients in clinical decisions.

A contingent of the Perioperative Services team recently attended the American College of Surgeons' Quality and Safety Conference, to share knowledge and collaborate on ideas that improve quality, safety, and outcomes for surgical patients.

With two podium presentations and four poster abstracts, the team covered a breadth of subjects including an evaluation of the Shared Decision-Making training module, NSH's Colorectal Scorecard, accuracy in surgical site infection coding, and the meritorious status at Yarmouth Regional Hospital.

All outpatient services and clinics located on the hospital's main floor, including X-ray, blood collection (lab) and day surgery are not impacted by the repair work and remain accessible. 

Inpatient services are also not affected. Staff continue to provide care, meals and medication to patients and residents. 

Juliana Napoleao Cardoso, a Clinical Exercise Physiologist and Kinesiologist, has a story that is as unique as it is inspiring. As a Kinesiologist, Jessica Eisener is driven by the belief that our bodies are designed for movement. “Our bodies are made to move. They need it, they crave it,” Eisener asserts. Not an athlete herself, she finds joy in challenging her limits and improving her performance. For Eisener, exercise transcends the boundaries of physical fitness, serving as a tool for stress management and a pathway to a healthier life.

Portions of Digby General Hospital’s exterior are getting a fresh upgrade and the work involved means patients and visitors should use caution and plan for extra time when coming to the hospital. 

“Somebody was looking out for me; I’ll tell you that,” said Mark Weagle of his care following a traumatic injury at home in Yarmouth on June 26, 2023. Weagle badly injured his hand in a split-second incident involving a piece of machinery that processes firewood.

“I’m told the ambulance was here within 18 or 19 minutes,” said Weagle, who remembers telling the paramedic, “Just get me in that ambulance and get me to the hospital.”
