Digby General Hospital patients, visitors to use caution while work underway

Portions of Digby General Hospital’s exterior are getting a fresh upgrade and the work involved means patients and visitors should use caution and plan for extra time when coming to the hospital.

The work has been underway for several weeks and includes improvements to the west and south faces of the building, around the renal dialysis wing. Scaffolding has been set up around the west face of building, which will then be moved to the south face.

This work will help create a more environmentally-friendly hospital, with new energy efficient windows, improved building insulation and a new façade made with durable panels.

All hospital programs and services will continue to operate as usual while this work is happening.

Drivers entering the rear parking lot are being diverted to St. Mary’s Street behind the hospital while this phase of work is underway. This traffic diversion will impact people coming to the Mobile Breast Screening van which is scheduled to be at the Digby General Hospital from August 6 to 21 (nsbreastscreening.ca).

Patients and visitors are asked to please use caution, and respect all signage, barriers and directions given by construction crew members. While work is underway, there will be heavy equipment, workers and construction vehicles in the area. Patients and families should plan for a little extra time to arrive at appointments as more time may be needed to navigate around the area.

Hospital staff and patients, as well as neighbours and nearby businesses may experience some extra noise related to this work. People inside the hospital may notice some reduced natural light due to work around the windows.

Everyone at Digby General Hospital looks forward to the completion of this important work, and thank patients, families and the community for your cooperation.
