In celebration of Medical Radiation Technologists (MRT) Week, Nova Scotia Health is highlighting some of the amazing MRTs working across the province. Today, we feature Miranda Thomson, manager of Diagnostic Imaging and Non-Invasive Cardiac Investigation at Aberdeen Regional Hospital in New Glasgow.

From an early age, Thomson knew she wanted a career in healthcare. She was initially only aware of traditional roles like nursing and medicine, but upon discovering the field of Medical Radiation Technology, she was “all in.”

As Diabetes Educator Day 2024 shines a spotlight on the dedicated professionals who help individuals manage diabetes effectively, we meet two exceptional team members at Strait Richmond Hospital’s Diabetes Clinic in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia—registered dietitian Krystal Burns and diabetes nurse educator Lacey Benoit. Together, they navigate the complexities of rural diabetes care, providing essential support and personalized strategies to help patients lead healthier lives.

Erin Sephton, a physician assistant (PA) at Dartmouth General Hospital (DGH), has been named the 2024 recipient of the prestigious Tom Ashman Award by the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA). This annual award recognizes exceptional service, leadership and dedication to the PA profession.

Tanya Feehan, physiotherapist at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, started working at the hospital in 2005. She has since built a career dedicated to delivering high quality care and ensuring patient safety.

Feehan was recently named one of 49 patient safety champion individuals and teams at Nova Scotia Health.

In Sarah Willet’s 25-year career as an occupational therapist, she’s seen many changes, notably to the scope of practice and a growth in the patient population as the stigma related to mental health has subsided.

Rachel Church has forged a bit of a unique path in her two years as an occupational therapist.
