A recent collaboration between Nova Scotia Health’s bariatric teams in Truro and Glace Bay is paving the way for stronger, more connected obesity care across the province.

Dr. Ahmed Jad, alongside registered dietitians Ashley Manuel and Meredith Lap from the Truro-based team, visited the Obesity Care Clinic in Glace Bay to share knowledge and learn from their Eastern Zone colleagues. The visit included educational sessions, discussions on best practices and a deep dive into both surgical and non-surgical obesity management approaches.

As of Feb. 3, 2025 there are 104,324 Nova Scotians on the Need a Family Practice Registry.  

The last published number was on Jan 7, 2025 when there were 110,456 Nova Scotians on the registry.

In total, 6,132 people were attached or removed as a result of ongoing validation work that confirmed they have a provider in January 2025. The percentage of the population currently on the registry is 9.9. 

Nova Scotia Health will next update the registry in early March.

HALIFAX, N.S. – New security measures are coming to the QEII Halifax Infirmary emergency department to keep patients, families and care providers safer.

Beginning Friday, Feb. 14, anyone entering the emergency department’s main entrance (Bell Road) will be required to go through a metal detector and may be searched. Anything found to be a weapon – or objects that could be used as a weapon – will be confiscated.

Kara Evers is doing her best to tip the scales in Nova Scotia’s favour when it comes to better educating and strengthening treatment options for patients struggling with clinical obesity.

The nurse practitioner and Nova Scotia Health’s bariatric surgery program coordinator takes new steps this year, spreading awareness concurrently with the Nova Scotia Sisterhood. Evers landed a $50,000 grant via the 2024 Novo Nordisk Community Prevention and Wellness Fund, a partnership involving the province and Denmark-based healthcare firm Novo Nordisk Canada Inc.

For Olubunmi (Bunmi) Adeleye, communications is more than just a profession; it is a passion fueled by curiosity, creativity and an unyielding drive to make an impact. As a Communications Advisor with Nova Scotia Health, she supports a growing portfolio, including primary health care, palliative care and other networks and programs. Prior to this, she had interned with the OPOR team (One Person One Record - a digitally supported, patient-centered healthcare transformation project), which then matured into the communications advisor role she now holds.
