Valley Regional Hospital, which opened in 1992, serves the people of Kings and Annapolis Counties. It provides specialty services as a referral centre for the Annapolis Valley and other areas of Western Nova Scotia.

Visiting Hours

Visitors are welcome from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please check with nursing staff if you want to visit outside of the standard visiting hours.

Parking

A $3 parking fee will be charged when you exit the parking lot. Please make sure you have the correct change before leaving the hospital. Change machines are located in the lobby and in the emergency department.

Semi-private and Private Rooms in Nova Scotia Hospitals

  • Private room: Includes one bed and one washroom. You can find current rates here.
  • Semi-private room: Includes two beds separated by curtains and one washroom. You can find current rates here.

Space in our private and semi-private rooms is limited. The sooner we have your insurance information the more likely we are to be able to accommodate your request.

When the booking clerk calls with your hospital admission date, let them know you are interested in a private or semi-private room.

TV Service

TVs are located in most patient rooms. There may be a connection and service fee. 
     
Phone Service

Each patient room has a phone that receives incoming calls. Patients can dial 499 to make arrangements for service to place outgoing calls. There is a fee for this service.

Inpatient Meals

During your stay, you will receive breakfast, lunch and supper daily. If you follow a special diet or have food-related allergies or sensitivities, let us know when you arrive.

When you are admitted, you will receive a service menu. To order your meal, dial 444 and place your order with our call centre staff. This service is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Spiritual Spaces and Quiet Rooms

The chapel is located on level two and is open 24 hours a day.

There is a coordinating chaplain on staff at the hospital. You can reach the coordinating chaplain at 902-678-7381 ext. 2252.

There are also community clergy of most faiths and denominations who can be contacted. Some denominations have lay pastoral visitors to visit members of their own church or denomination.

A file will be made for you when you Call to book your screening mammogram appointment that includes your name, date of birth, mailing address and health card number. You do not need to have a doctor’s referral to make an appointment. However, please provide us with the name of your family doctor so that we can forward information regarding your mammogram results.

This service is available for all asymptomatic women over the age of 40 who have a current Canadian Health Card. Please have your health card ready when you call.

The Early Mobility Program is for patients aged 65+ in hospital who are moving well, but may be at risk of losing strength and mobility while in hospital are assessed by a member of the care team using the Clinical Frailty Scale. This could happen in the emergency department or on an inpatient unit. Based on their level of frailty, they may be referred to our Early Mobility Program during their hospital stay. The Valley Regional Hospital Heart Function Clinic offers education, optimization of heart failure medication, and therapies for people who have suffered heart failure. Patients will see a nurse and a specialist which may include a registered dietitian.

If your primary care provider (family doctor, nurse practitioner etc.) believes you may benefit from orthopedic surgery they will make a referral to an Orthopedic surgeon. After receiving their referral the surgeon’s office will schedule an appointment with you.

Within the Central Zone – Halifax area, Eastern Shore and West Hants, patients will often be scheduled for a Halifax area, Eastern Shore, West Hants referrals are managed through the Orthopedic Assessment Clinic and you will be scheduled for an appointment with the clinic. In all other areas referrals are made directly to surgeons offices and you will be contacted for an appointment.
