Pediatric Outpatient Services

Children requiring treatment or observation will be cared for initially in the Emergency Department. After a maximum of 24 hours of observation, children are either discharged or admitted to the pediatric inpatient area. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Nurses experienced in the care of children and families work with family physicians or a pediatrician to care for your child. The types of medical conditions observed by these care providers include: acute episodes of asthma, dehydration and respiratory tract infections. They will also assist with the procedures such as weight checks, blood work, feeding tube maintenance and IV (drip) insertions and fluid administration.

Please note, if you are located in the HRM, the IWK offers pediatric services.
