National Surgical Quality Improvement Program

Friendly surgeon in OR

After you have surgery you may get a call from a nurse (Surgical Clinical Nurse Reviewer) to ask questions about your surgery and recovery.

This page provides information about why these calls occur and how this information is used.

Please note: These nurses are not able to provide information about when surgeries will be scheduled. Please reach out to your surgeons office for questions regarding your surgery.

We are proud to have 11 Nova Scotia hospitals participating in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP).

Through this program, registered nurses (surgical clinical nurse reviewers), collect information from patients after their surgery. This helps us look for areas in surgical care that can be improved.

One of our nurses may call you 30 days after your surgery to have a short discussion about your recovery from your procedure. Your participation is voluntary and can help us improve surgical care for our patients.

Patient Education

Nova Scotia Health is listening and learning from our patients.  We know how important it is for patients to know what to expect before and after surgery and are working to improve education and communication with patients. This includes developing resources to support surgical patients.
