Weather, road conditions impacting some services in Eastern Zone

Nova Scotia Health is advising that there could be some service delays at facilities in Eastern Zone (Cape Breton Island, Antigonish and Guysborough counties) due to weather and road conditions in many areas.

While most services are proceeding with clinics/appointments, people are asked to call ahead to the service to see if their clinic/appointment is proceeding as scheduled. Some services may be offering virtual care/appointments and will connect with clients directly.

Patients are asked to consider the nature of their booked appointments and whether any non-urgent appointments can be rescheduled. Please do not attempt to travel to a scheduled care appointment if it is unsafe for you to do so.

Inpatient and emergency/urgent services continue to be provided. The emergency department at Guysborough Memorial Hospital will be open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. It will be closed from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15.

Lab services are providing emergency/urgent and inpatient services only. Outpatient lab (blood) collections at all Eastern Zone sites are cancelled for the morning.

Public Health Mobile Unit clinics scheduled for today at the Spanish River Community Centre in Sydney and the North Sydney Mall in North Sydney are cancelled.

Staff are expected to report to work as scheduled. They are asked to use caution and travel when it is safe to do so. Eastern Zone leadership will be assessing service availability throughout Wednesday morning and will provide an update.
