Utility tunnel upgrade complete at All Saints Springhill

An important infrastructure project has been completed at All Saints Springhill Hospital (ASSH).  

A final walkthrough of the newly upgraded utility tunnel took place in July and marked the end of a year-long project that will have a significant impact on the site.

The improvements to the tunnel included new electrical wiring and conduits to the boiler room, making the transfer of heat and hot water more efficient and reliable.    

A new propane tank pad was also laid, adding another layer of reliability to the site’s utility infrastructure. These upgrades will result in fewer disruptions and more dependable service for the building systems that keep the facility running smoothly.

One of the greatest benefits of the tunnel upgrade is accessibility. The original tunnel dated back to the early construction of the site and featured a lower height clearance than today’s standards. That restricted access and required special training for basic maintenance work. The upgraded height clearance is a meaningful safety improvement for everyone accessing the space.

Project manager Adam Fraser says this work has long range value.

“Upgrades like this one may not always be visible day to day, but they play an important role in keeping our facilities safe and reliable for years to come.”
