Planned power outage at Glace Bay Hospital on Sunday

A planned power outage will take place on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Glace Bay Hospital.

The planned outage is necessary for work to be done on the hospital's emergency power system. It will start at 7 a.m. and will last until approximately 7 p.m.

The hospital will remain open. Portable generators will be onsite to power necessary items.

While the work is underway:

  • elevators will be down from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visitors will need to use the stairs during those hours. Overhead lighting will be available in the stairwells.
  • the hospital's phone system will be down from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • additional staff and security will be onsite to help as needed.

Inpatient services will not be affected. Staff will still provide care, meals and medication to the hospital's patients and long-term care residents.

Nova Scotia Health appreciates the public's patience and cooperation while the work is underway.
