Celebrating National Dosimetrist Day

August 19 marked National Dosimetrist Day and today we take the opportunity to acknowledge the exceptional contributions of our 17 Medical Dosimetrists and the critical role they play in delivering high-quality cancer care in radiation oncology. Thirteen dosimetrists work at the QEII Cancer Centre in Halifax and four dosimetrists work at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre in Sydney.

Medical dosimetrists are an essential part of the radiation oncology team, combining advanced knowledge, technical expertise, and clinical judgment to develop individualized treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy. Through careful planning, precise dose calculations, and close collaboration with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists, dosimetrists help ensure that radiation treatments are delivered safely, accurately, and effectively.

As cancer treatments continue to evolve, dosimetrists remain at the forefront of implementing new technologies and advancing best practices. Their dedication to continuous learning supports the delivery of innovative, evidence-informed radiation treatment.
