Strait Richmond Hospital serves the health care needs of the residents of communities in Richmond County and the southern portion of Inverness County.

Visiting Hours

Visitors are welcome daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the exception of a rest period from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please check with nursing staff, if you want to visit outside of the standard visiting hours. 

*Learn more about NSHA's Family Presence Policy, which welcomes up to two people named by the patient to be their family or primary support person/people.

Parking

A $2 parking fee will be charged when you exit the parking lot. Please make sure you have the correct change before leaving the hospital. There is also metered parking in front of the hospital. There is a change machine available inside the hospital located by the registration desk.

WiFi is available in all inpatient care areas and front entrance area of hospital.

Semi-private and Private Rooms in Nova Scotia Hospitals

  • Private room: Includes one bed and one washroom. You can find current rates here.
  • Semi-private room: Includes two beds separated by curtains and one washroom. You can find current rates here.

Space in our private and semi-private rooms is limited. The sooner we have your insurance information the more likely we are to be able to accommodate your request.

When the booking clerk calls with your hospital admission date, let them know you are interested in a private or semi-private room.

When you are admitted, be sure to have your private insurance card with you and let the admitting clerk know you have requested a private or semi-private room.TV & Phone in your Room

TV Service

TVs are available in all patient rooms. To have your TV connected or disconnected, contact the Hospitality Network at 1-866-223-3686. Fees may apply. 
    
Phone Service

Patient or family members can call Bell Aliant at 1-888-214-7896 to have the bedside phone hooked up. All calls and charges will be directly billed to home phone account.   

Cell phones and other wireless devices may be used in some areas of the hospital. Please look for signs before using your device.  For the safety of patients, please turn off your cell phone when you are not in a cell phone-friendly area. 

Inpatient Meals

During your stay at the hospital, you will receive breakfast, lunch and supper daily. If you follow a special diet or have food-related allergies or sensitivities, let us know when you arrive.

There are also vending machine located in the main floor lobby with sandwiches, fruit, yogurt, milk and other healthy snacks.

Chemical and bacterial testing is available through the NSH clinical laboratories and sent to Central Zone Environmental Services. Sample collection must be completed by 5am the same morning of drop-off.

Samples must be collected using the water sample bottles and requisition provided by NS Health. Microbiology (E.Coli & Coliform) testing is a white top 100 mL bottle / Chemical & Mineral testing is a black top 200 mL bottle

The emergency department is located through the main entrance of the hospital. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When you arrive, please check in at registration. If you arrive after 9 p.m., use the emergency door entrance at the end of the hospital.
