Yarmouth Hospital emergency department redevelopment progress - temporary parking change

Construction of the new Yarmouth Regional Hospital emergency department is in full swing, with plenty of work happening around the hospital property. Over the next month, excavation will take place to connect underground services, like water, sewer and storm pipes, with town infrastructure under Vancouver Street.

This means sections of the front, north parking lot will be closed in phases from late January until early March. These are the parking spots on the north side of the School of Nursing building, directly parallel to Vancouver Street.

This work may cause some traffic disruptions on Vancouver Street and the sidewalk. A safety spotter will be stationed in the area to safely guide walkers around affected portions of the sidewalk.

We understand parking can be a challenge during peak times at Yarmouth Hospital. Several new parking areas have been opened in recent months, including:

  • New parking lot near the corner of Vancouver Street and Grove Road
  • New parking spaces along the driveway off Grove Road
  • New parking area in front of Veteran’s Place, on the south side of the hospital
  • Additional parking spaces will be created as the redevelopment project moves forward

As always, people can also park in the south, rear parking lot and the parking lot off Grove Road.

For the safety of all, everyone is asked to please respect all “no parking” signs and those parking spaces reserved for volunteers, on-call staff and emergency vehicles, and only park in designated parking spots. Patients who are able to be dropped off for appointments are asked to consider doing so. Everyone is asked to obey signs and respect fences, barriers and work crews. During construction there will be extra activity, heavy vehicles and construction crews in the area, so please use caution.

We are committed to patient-centred care, safety and access to our hospital. We look forward to sharing more updates as this project makes progress.
