Wear Red for Women's Heart Health event Friday

The Wear Red for Women’s Heart Health initiative invites all Canadians to light their homes in red on Friday, Feb. 13 in recognition of Women’s Heart Health Awareness Month.

Wear Red for Women’s Heart Health is a national endeavour. As part of the campaign there will be a public event on Friday at the Halifax Infirmary (Royal Bank Theatre), from noon -1 p.m.

That same day, from 10 a.m. to noon, there will be booths focusing on women and heart health initiatives on the second floor of the Halifax Infirmary, overlooking the Summer Street lobby.

This initiative highlights the meaningful difference that dedicated research and focused attention on women’s health can make, both in improving outcomes and in addressing longstanding gaps in recognition, diagnosis, and care.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women in Canada, yet, women’s heart health continues to be under-recognized, under-diagnosed, and under-researched.

Asking Canadians to light their houses in red on Friday night aligns with national and international efforts to highlight women’s cardiovascular health and will serve as an important reminder of the need for continued advocacy, education, and action in this area.
