Site preparations begin for new dialysis unit at Strait Richmond Hospital
Site preparations begin on Monday, June 8 at Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston for the construction of a new dialysis unit.
The project will use a construction approach called Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), which allows the unit to be built off-site and assembled on hospital grounds. This approach helps reduce construction timelines and unforeseen delays often associated with traditional construction methods. Once finished, the unit will have six dialysis stations, an increase of two stations.
The modular unit is expected to arrive later this summer. The new dialysis unit is anticipated to open in winter 2027.
What patients and visitors should know when visiting Strait Richmond Hospital:
- All hospital services remain accessible.
- Traffic control points will be used during future module delivery and crane activity.
- Patients and visitors are asked to watch for work crews and heavy equipment, use caution and follow posted signage.
- Allow extra time when visiting the hospital as work advances.
Strait Richmond’s unit is one of three dialysis units being built in Nova Scotia to help more patients receive dialysis treatment closer to home. The Government of Nova Scotia announced the units in September 2024.
Nova Scotia Health thanks the community for its patience and cooperation as this important healthcare investment moves forward.
