"The set of hands on the ground": Jana Colwill's impact as a practice facilitator
Meet Jana Colwill, the primary healthcare coordinator working as a practice facilitator extraordinaire, hailing from Chester Basin in Nova Scotia. With a rich background spanning 15 years at Nova Scotia Health, Colwill brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to her role.
As a practice facilitator, Colwill is the go-to person for ensuring that clinics run like well-oiled machines. She describes her role best as being “the set of hands on the ground, ready to support and help clinics function their best, for both staff and patients.” Her primary focus involves supporting clinics with their electronic medical record system, optimizing workflows and assisting with panel management to enhance efficiency and patient care.
But it's not just about the technicalities for Colwill, it's about making a real difference in people's lives. "The most rewarding part of my job is being able to provide support to all members of the primary healthcare teams and being able to make a difference in how their day-to-day routine runs," she says. With her guidance, clinics navigate through challenges and embrace positive change, ultimately improving the quality of care they provide.
In her downtime, Colwill plays the role of a proud sports mom, shuttling her 14-year-old son to various athletic activities. "My spare time is filled with being a taxi for my 14-year-old son. His love for many sports keeps me on the road 5-6 days a week," she says. Despite the busy schedule, watching her son pursue his passions brings immense joy to Colwill's life.
Jana Colwill's dedication to supporting healthcare teams and fostering positive change is truly commendable. With her energy and commitment, she continues to make a lasting impact on primary healthcare in Nova Scotia.
