Second harm reduction community meeting planned for Springhill
Nova Scotia Health, Northern Healthy Connections, and Cumberland Homelessness and Housing Support Association are partnering to host a second drop-in community wellness event in Springhill on Friday, Dec. 15, to provide support and share information on substance use harm reduction strategies.
In recent months, Springhill families have lost loved ones to drug overdoses. The groups are coming together to share information about their programs and support with community members and to discuss ways to connect.
People of all ages are invited to attend the community wellness event tomorrow (Friday) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre (the Teen Centre) at 6 Main St. in Springhill.
In the first hour, from 1 to 2 p.m., each partner organization will briefly discuss how they provide support.
Northern Healthy Connections and Cumberland Homelessness and Housing Support Association will join health promotion, outreach, nursing, and clinical staff from Nova Scotia Health’s Mental Health and Addictions, Public Health, and Primary Health Care teams to:
- Provide support and information on harm reduction strategies and how people can connect to services.
- Instruct on administering Naloxone and where to get free take home naloxone kits.
- Offer light refreshments and talk with community members.
This afternoon session is designed to equip residents with the knowledge and resources to provide support to their fellow community members, if needed.
