Latest update on Cape Breton Regional Hospital Water Leak
Nova Scotia Health’s response to a flood at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 25 continues.
Facilities Management & Support, Environmental Services and Infection Prevention & Control are working closely with remediation companies to assess and address the situation.
Updates as of today, September 6, include:
Third floor:
- Affected physician offices have been temporarily relocated to other administrative spaces on the third floor and second floor of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Affected patients will be contacted directly in advance of any upcoming appointments.
- New water damage was discovered in one operating room that was initially closed for clean-up and reopened. The room is currently closed and is undergoing repairs. It is anticipated that the operating room will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 10.
- Perinatal clinic has been relocated to the fourth floor, Pediatrics Unit. Affected patients will be contacted directly with location details in advance of any upcoming appointments.
Second floor:
- Impacted administrative offices have been closed for repair. Staff have been temporarily located, working in the neighbouring Sydney Health Park or other designated locations.
- Elevators 5, 6, 9 & 10 remain closed. Eight other elevators remain operational.
Repairs are expected to take approximately five months to complete.
