Deadline approaching for public input on new Sydney River Health Centre

Sydney River Health Centre

A new collaborative care clinic is coming to Sydney River and Nova Scotia Health wants your input on what the clinic should look like.

As part of Nova Scotia Health's efforts to improve access to healthcare, the Sydney River Health Centre will open in early 2025 and provide a broad range of services under one roof.

Understanding the most pressing healthcare needs of the community is a vital part of ensuring Nova Scotia Health provides the right healthcare provider at the right time.

That's where you come in. Nova Scotia Health wants to hear directly from local residents about what the clinic should look like. Applications can be found here

(https://research-study.nshealth.ca/surveys/?s=D4PRKN8HTMKTYATY) and will be accepted until Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Who can participate?

Cape Breton Regional Municipality residents with experience accessing healthcare services such as primary health care, hip and knee, heart and lung, diabetic clinic, community rehab, community palliative care, and continuing care. Those interested in sharing their experiences and suggestions can apply online here (https://research-study.nshealth.ca/surveys/?s=D4PRKN8HTMKTYATY). The number of sessions will be limited, so applications may be vetted to ensure a diverse population is represented.

What does participation involve?

Those selected for the sessions will have the chance to participate in one-on-one conversations as well as larger focus groups, to share what is working well, and where there are opportunities for improving access. Your feedback will influence the development of how the Sydney River Health Centre operates.

How will we collect feedback?

Session participants will take a facilitator through their journey of accessing healthcare. Sessions can last between one and two hours.

When and where will these sessions take place?

The first round of one-on-one sessions will take place at the Sydney Riverview Y-Service Club, 54 Riverdale Dr., Sydney, Wednesday, Sept. 18 to Saturday, Sept. 21. Successful applicants will be contacted by email to schedule their session. Based on the initial collection of feedback, participants may have the option to attend larger focus group sessions in October.
