Community Health Boards across Nova Scotia call for Wellness Fund applications
From floor curling in Cape Breton to free haircuts in Cumberland County, the Nova Scotia Community Health Board Wellness Fund supports community projects across the province that help Nova Scotians lead healthier lives.
This is an opportunity for new and innovative non-profit initiatives to benefit from Nova Scotia Health financial assistance. The Wellness Fund awards anywhere from $500 to $3,500 for eligible projects, with other examples ranging from French language youth cooking and babysitters’ courses in Greenwood to drop in playgroup for 2SLGBTQ+ parents hosted in Cole Harbour, among others. Applicants can request up to $3,500.
“The distribution of wellness funds is a highlight of what we do as community health board members,” said Tony Dorrian, co-chair of the Yarmouth County Community Health Board. “It is inspiring to learn how our local champions and grassroots organizations leverage these funds in an impactful way, so they can take their innovative ideas and take action to improve the quality of life of our community.”
“With our focus on the social determinants of health, the funds provide the necessary resources and opportunities to fund non-profits within our community, fostering a healthier community,” added Rosella Born, chair of the Victoria County Community Health Board. “With increased awareness through the applications submitted, we are better informed to support the wellness of our communities.”
There are 35 Community Health Boards across the province. People can apply to more than one Community Health Board if their project(s) occurs in more than one area; however, a separate application is required. It is possible that not all projects submitted will receive funds, as Community Health Boards frequently receive more applications than available funds. Nonetheless, all eligible groups are encouraged to apply.
Applications and additional information are available on the Community Health Board website: www.communityhealthboards.ns.ca/wellness-funds. The deadline for applications is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024.
