Chronic Pain Services

Chronic pain services helps individuals manage pain and improve their health, function and well-being. The chronic pain teams provides assessments, treatments and education for people with chronic pain.   

The teams may include doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers and other health care professionals that specialize in pain management. Services vary based on facility, area of the province and level of care.   

We are here to support you in your pain management journey. We will work with you and your primary care provider to arm you with tools and strategies to help manage your pain and improve your quality of life.   

Some of the strategies they may recommend include:   

  • Education on self-management and understanding pain   
  • Medication   
  • Psychological support   
  • Exercise and physical therapy   
  • Nutritional counseling   
  • Relaxation strategies   
  • Nerve blocks   
  • Ergonomic strategies   
  • Strategies for improving sleep, physical fitness, energy/fatigue, nutrition, and mental health   
  • Connecting to social and community services

New Health Information System

Nova Scotia Health's new One Person One Record system has rolled out at facilities in the Halifax Regional and West Hants municipalities, and some provincial Mental Health and Addictions Program services.
