Younger members bring fresh, new ideas to Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital Foundation
The Sutherland Harris Memorial Health Foundation continues to bring quality health care to Pictou West through its commitment to excellence and the people it serves.
The foundation was established in 1994 to administer funds accumulated from donors over the years to support the hospital. Over the years, the mandate of the foundation reached beyond the hospital into the community of Pictou West.
Ken Johnston, chair of the Sutherland Harris Memorial Health Foundation attributes their great work to a diverse board with younger members who offer fresh, new ideas. Having taught in the community for over 30 years, Johnston looks to recruit his past students to bring fresh perspectives, techsavvy insights, and diverse viewpoints to the table.
“I see how their energy and enthusiasm can inspire members and a create a more forward-thinking board,” Johnston explained. This includes the launch of their new website, shmhf.org. “Their innovative ideas and connections are taking us where we need to be.”
The board sees the new website as an opportunity to build and maintain relationships with donors, partners, stakeholders and the community. Online donations now make it easier for supporters to donate without the need to visit a physical location or send a cheque by mail.
The Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital Foundation has supported recent purchases including specialty seating for blood collection patients, window blinds for the restorative care unit, and conference room renovations including AV equipment and furniture.
