Movement Disorders Clinic

The term "movement disorders" refers to a group of nervous system (neurological) conditions that affect speed and coordination of movement. Movement disorders include conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Essential Tremor, and Dystonia, among others.

Our services include consultation with a Movement Disorder Neurologist, Huntington’s Disease multidisciplinary care clinic, advanced therapies for persons with Parkinson’s disease (e.g. Deep Brain Stimulation, Duodopa, Apomorphine etc.), Parkinson’s disease multidisciplinary care clinic, botulinum toxin injections for a subset of neurologic conditions, and access to movement disorder nursing expertise.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Plan to arrive 20 minutes early to find parking and register for your appointment.
Bring a list of all the medications you take, including over-the-counter medications (bought without a prescription), vitamins, and supplements.

What can I expect at my appointment?

During your first visit, the doctor will do a full assessment and go over your medical history. Be open and honest with the team about how you are feeling, your symptoms, and how you take your medication. This is important so we can find the best ways to help you feel as well as possible.

Will there be any follow-up?

Follow-up will be discussed between you and your neurologist. A follow-up appointment letter will be sent to you by mail.

You will need a referral from your family doctor, a nurse practitioner or other primary care practitioner is required to access the service. Referrals should be faxed to 902-473-4438.

Changing or cancelling an appointment:

If you call to change an appointment, we may not call you back. A new appointment time will be sent to you in the mail. This may take up to 2 or 3 weeks. We will offer you the next available appointment, but please keep in mind availability may be limited.

If you must cancel your appointment, please do so at least 48 hours in advance. If you do not call to cancel, we will not automatically reschedule your appointment. Please make every effort to book, attend, and rebook your appointments. This helps us plan your care, as well as help other patients at the Clinic.
