The urgent treatment centre at Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck will be closed on Thursday, May 9. It reopens on Friday, May 10 at 8 a.m.

Baddeck's Victoria County Memorial opened in 1949 as a 23-bed Canadian Red Cross operated facility. In 1995, a new hospital was opened.

Visitors are welcome from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please check with nursing staff, if you want to visit outside of the standard visiting hours.

Free public WiFi. To request access to our guest wireless connection, please send an email to wifi@cbdha.nshealth.ca requesting connection information. There will be an automated reply with necessary information.
Space in our private and semi-private rooms is limited. The sooner we have your insurance information the more likely we are to be able to accommodate your request.
When the booking clerk calls with your hospital admission date, let them know you are interested in a private or semi-private room.
When you are admitted, be sure to have your private insurance card with you and let the admitting clerk know you have requested a private or semi-private room.TV & Phone in your Room

TV Service
A TV is provided in all inpatient rooms. There is no fee to use the TV.
Phone Service
You can hook up your own phone by calling your service provider. There is a $10 connection fee and you will be billed through your home phone.
During your stay at the hospital, you will receive breakfast, lunch and supper daily. If you follow a special diet or have food-related allergies or sensitivities, let us know when you arrive. Food is provided based on your doctor’s diet order.
There is a palliative care family room and a TV Room in the inpatient area

Ask your primary care provider for a referral to a Diabetes Centre. It will be reviewed by our team and you will be contacted for an appointment.

Bacterial testing is currently not available at this location. Please drop samples to Bureau Veritas Laboratories, 465 George St, Sydney, NS (902-567-1255). Chemical testing is still available through the NSH clinical laboratories and sent to CZ Environmental Services.

Appointments are required for blood collection service.
If you have a referral, you may book an appointment for blood collection at this location anytime online or by calling 902-563-8545 or toll free 1-833-395-1440 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday (excluding holidays).

Once those appointments are booked up, we will update the UTC voicemail, and place a sign in the UTC entrance letting the public know.
We ask that you call back the next day the UTC is open to book an appointment. If you require emergent care for a life-threatening illness or injury, please call 911.
You can also call 811 to speak with a registered nurse.
To get an appointment, call 902-295-2983 (no walk-ins).
You will be assessed to determine if you require an appointment later that day, or the next day the centre is open. If you require emergent care, you will be directed to the nearest emergency department.
To assess you by phone, a nurse will ask you questions about what has led you to request an appointment at the urgent treatment centre.
They will also ask about existing health conditions and any medications you are taking.
Once the nurse has gathered your information, they will do one of the following:
