Update on Medical Assistance in Dying
Friday, March 31, 2017 - 04:12PM
Nova Scotia Health Authority received 67 requests for medical assistance in dying (MAiD) between June 17, 2016 and March 31, 2017.
This represents the period between when federal MAiD legislation came into effect and the end of the 2016-17 fiscal year.
Of those 67 requests from Nova Scotians, 31 were administered.
Of those that were not administered, some individuals withdrew their request, some died before administration, some had not happened before the most recent numbers were reported, and some did not meet the criteria.
NSHA will not provide additional information about individual instances, locations or providers. Updated Nova Scotia figures will be shared at regular points in the future.
