Northside the Lakes Community Health Board Launching Facebook Page and Volunteer Video on Tuesday, Apr. 25

The Northside the Lakes Community Health Board (CHB) is using National Volunteer Week (Apr. 23-29) to launch a video on volunteering and its new facebook page.

On Tuesday, Apr. 25, the CHB will unveil its new facebook page. Having a facebook page will help the CHB broaden its reach in the community and keep the community updated on its activities. The page will feature updates, photos and events related to the CHB and its community partners. It will also have information on the CHB’s wellness grants, grant recipients and profiles of its volunteer members.

“We know that social media is a great way to communicate in a timely manner with the community,” says Debbie Martell, CHB coordinator with Nova Scotia Health Authority. “It gives us an opportunity to build positive relationships within the community and share stories that deal with helping to make the community a healthier place to live, work and play.”

One of the key features of the facebook page is the CHB’s video on volunteering. The video, “Value of Volunteering”, was produced by Jason LeFrense of JFL Productions. The video features people who volunteer with a variety of community groups including the CHB, talking about their experience as volunteers and the impact it has had on their lives.

“One of the priorities of the Northside the Lakes Community Health Board is to promote awareness of the importance of volunteerism and community participation,” says Martell. “Our CHB members are volunteers so we know firsthand about the importance of volunteers. That’s why we made this video and we encourage any organization who wants to promote volunteering to use it.”

The launch of the facebook page and video takes place on Tuesday, Apr. 25 at 12 p.m. at the Emera Centre in North Sydney. After the launch, the video can be viewed on the Northside the Lakes Community Health Board facebook page.
