More COVID-19 rapid testing pop-ups coming to Eastern Zone

Due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in our province, Nova Scotia’s testing program has changed to make sure people who are eligible get the type of test they need, when they need it.

At this time, testing is reserved for those with symptoms and/or close contacts of a COVID-19 case. To determine if you are eligible for a PCR or a rapid take home test, complete the online assessment - https://covid-self-assessment.novascotia.ca/en. The assessment will determine whether you are able to book an appointment for a PCR or rapid take-home test at a testing centre near you.

In response to the heightened demand for testing and increase in COVID-19 cases, our testing partners will be hosting rapid pop-up testing throughout Eastern Zone in the coming weeks. These pop-up sites will provide those in rural areas with limited access to a testing centre the opportunity to get tested and pick up rapid take-home tests (based on availability).

Rapid pop-up testing will be at the following locations this week:

• Wednesday, Jan. 12
Inverness Legion, 15857 Central Ave, Inverness
11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

• Thursday, Jan. 13
Port Hood Fire Hall, 304 Main St., Port Hood
11 a.m. - 3p.m.

• Friday, Jan. 14
Cheticamp Seniors Hall (behind St. Peters Church), 15108 Cabot Trail Rd., Cheticamp
11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Tests will be administered on a first come, first serve basis, meant to support those in the communities the rapid pop-up testing is taking place. We ask that those who live outside these communities to respect this as additional rapid pop-up testing sites are being planned throughout Eastern Zone soon.

Nova Scotia Health would also like to remind the public not to visit emergency departments to access COVID-19 testing. Testing in these departments is meant for patients seeking emergency care and helps keep our health care teams safe. Testing is in emergency departments is not accessible to the general public. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but thank you for your cooperation.
