CRHCC Surgical Schedule Resumes June 5

Amherst, NS – Beginning Monday, June 5, the operating rooms at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre will return to normal scheduling following a flood that occurred on Sunday, May 28.

Effective today, June 2, at 12:00 p.m. (noon), the CRHCC will once again accept emergency surgical cases. Since Sunday, hospitals in Moncton and Truro were on stand-by to accept emergency cases.

Air quality tests conducted in the OR area showed good results allowing for the decision to reopen the ORs. The surgical team will prioritize all postponed cases to ensure the most urgent procedures are scheduled first. Patients who had surgery postponed will be contacted directly to reschedule.

There will be a slight delay in rescheduling endoscopy cases (colonoscopies and gastro scopes) because cleanup and repairs in that area are still in progress. It is anticipated those cases will be rescheduled beginning late next week.

Approximately 100 cases were postponed over the past week including general surgery, ENT, OBS/GYN, ophthalmology (cataracts) and endoscopies (colonoscopies and gastro scopes).

NSHA appreciates the public’s understanding as we continue to respond to this situation.
